Artwork Commemorates 40th Anniversary of Chornobyl Nuclear Disaster
Many of us remember where we were when, on April 26, 1986, the Chornobyl nuclear disaster shook the world. Eleven years later in Winnipeg, I was commissioned by the art gallery of Oseredok Ukrainian Cultural and Education Centre to create 12 backlit digital images in a collage style to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the disaster. The exhibit was used as a fundraiser for children victims of the disaster.
With the help of the late Larissa Tolchinsky, the librarian at Oseredok, I was able to conduct research on the disaster and glean images and quotes that I used in the exhibit. Here are a few of the images:
